OD STARKES was born August 14, 1924 in Edmond, Georgia to Lillie Mae Hudson.  He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Church of Christ in Georgia, where he also received his formal education.

OD enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with pride and honor during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After twenty-three years of exemplary service, he retired from the Navy and began a new career with Civil Service working as a plumber. He retired once again after twenty years of continued service of excellence.

OD was a member of Church of Christ for forty-four years. He was a dedicated member and served the Lord faithfully as one of four Board of Directors, Usher, and Chairperson of the Church Maintenance Committee.

Later in life, OD united in marriage with the lovely Lucy Franklin Prewitt. All they needed was their love and their appreciation of the little things in life. The two enjoyed traveling and vacationing in Hawaii, Catalina Island, cruising throughout Mexico and traveled across country several times.

OD was active in the San Diego Community.  He was a Lifetime Member of the AARP and a member of the 1402 Engineering Battalion. He loved watching the Padres, westerns and playing board games with his grandchildren. Their lives have been enriched through the stories and practical knowledge that he shared with them.

On Friday, July 15, 2016, OD Starkes was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of nine and half years, Lucy Starkes; five daughters: Dianne Blount, Louise Harris (Clarence), Jo Ann Clark, Nelena Starkes, and Regina Starkes-Williams (Jamie); two stepdaughters: Sharon Bryant and Michelle Bryant; eleven grandchildren:  Lisa Starkes, Dana Noisette, Marshae Blossman, Donna Banks, Lawrence Blount, Atoy Harris, Tonetta Harris, Stephanie Foster, Bruce Clark, Earnest Clark, Jr, Benito Bryant, Christopher Starkes, and Christian Starkes; three step-grandchildren:  Michael Fisher, Malyka Norville and Ibny Xian Crookson; fifteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate a life well lived.
