Dennis Gordon Jones

Born in Long Beach, California to Dorothy and Granville Jones, Dennis joined three brothers: John, Donald, and Ricky. In 1961, the family moved to San Diego where they would remain to raise their four boys and two more girls, Lisa and Angela. Dennis grew up enjoying fishing outings, bowling, baseball, and good times with friends. The Jones family was rooted in the local Navy community and in their Bayview Baptist Church, where Dennis accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized.

In junior high, Dennis met his future wife, Margie. They met singing in the school chorus and became inseparable. Dennis attended Kearny High School where he was a standout athlete in both baseball and football. He received numerous honors and mentions in the local papers as an outfielder and pitcher with a rocket arm, and a talented wide receiver playing with a championship team in its heyday.

Upon graduation in 1978, Dennis was scouted and drafted to play professional baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He later trained for a career in technical television production, running camera and audio for local programs offered by the San Diego County Office of Education. Dennis and Margie were married on June 16, 1984, and were blessed with two amazing children, Meagan and Spencer, and the light of his life, granddaughter Kennedy.

Dennis was a true friend and a caring soul. Beloved friend, father, father-in-law, grandfather, husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, he was loved by so many. His kind and generous spirit, his unrelenting curiosity and quest for unwrapping life, from the earth to the skies, will never be forgotten.  May God bless and keep you in his care, Dennis.
