ARTHUR LEE LLOYD, SR. was born on April 5, 1934 in Greenville, Mississippi to Dewitt and Rosie Lloyd. He was raised and received his formal education in Greenville. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age.

In September of 1952, after graduating from high school, Arthur enlisted into the United States Navy, where he served his country with pride and honor during the Korean Conflict. During his stint in the Navy, he received several commendations, including three Good Conduct Medals and the China Service Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge in February of 1961.

Afterwards, he began employment with Gulf Atomic, where he worked numerous years making many friendships along the way. He later worked for U. S. Civil Service in the Hazardous Waste Department at the 32nd Street Naval Station. He retired in 1996 as a Department Supervisor.

On February 2, 1973, Arthur united in marriage with the lovely Alice Harris. To this union five children were united.

Arthur coached Encanto Little League for many years. He created lasting memories for the children on the team with his bright smile, patience and generosity. Many of the children he coached would visit Arthur in their adult years to remind him of his coaching days. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the horse races. He also loved telling stories about his adventures in the Navy to anyone who would listen.  His grandchildren were all familiar with his “war stories” that he shared with each generation.

Arthur was a dedicated member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over twenty years until his health began to decline. He once served as the President of the United Methodist Men’s Ministry and was a faithful usher. Arthur enjoyed helping others and volunteered tirelessly to deliver “Share Packages” for the less fortunate. He was an easy going and patient man who was willing to help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his only sister, Mabel Lloyd.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015, Arthur Lee Lloyd, Sr. was called home to eternal rest.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who dedicated his life to his family.  Arthur will be greatly missed by his wife of forty-two years, Alice; five children, Arthur Lloyd Jr. (Sheila), Kimberly Foster, Katrina Foster, Kevin Landrum (Karlena) and Kent Landrum; brothers-in-law, David Harris (Bernadette) and Larry Harris; sister-in-law, Patricia Kennedy; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and a host of friends and other relatives who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate his life.
